Assessing Obama's handling of several issues, the President fares worst on his handling of ISIS, the Islamic militant group that controls some areas of Iraq and Syria, with 62% disapproving of how the President is dealing with the group. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to announce shortly, possibly later Friday or over the weekend, that Iran cannot now acquire nuclear weapons, as it agreed with world powers in July in return for ending sanctions. The diplomatic sources told AFP that everything was being put in place so that the 28-nation EU, alongside the United States and the United Nations, can end its sanctions regime on what is known as "Implementation Day" for the July agreement. "When the report from the IAEA is published, the European Union will be ready," one of the sources said. The source said member states were agreeing the precise instruction which would then be finalised by the Netherlands as holder of the six-month rotating EU presidency. In a key step, Iran said on Thursday it had removed the core of its Arak heavy water reactor and filled in part of it with cement, meaning it could not be used to produce a nuclear weapon. Iran has always insisted its nuclear programme was purely for peaceful purposes. The EU chaired the talks between Iran and the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany. EU, US and UN sanctions have proved very damaging for Iran, blocking billions of dollars in assets overseas and starving the oil-dependent economy of much-needed technology and investment. Director General Yukiya Amano said it was "an important day for the international community". The agency's inspectors on the ground had verified that Iran had carried out the measures required, he said. A deal between Iran and world powers was agreed in July last year. Lifting the international sanctions on Iran would unfreeze billions of dollars of assets and allow Iranian oil to be sold internationally. As part of the deal, Iran had to drastically reduce its number of centrifuges and dismantle a heavy-water reactor near the town of Arak, both of which could be used in creating nuclear weapons. Iran has always maintained its programme is peaceful, but opponents of the deal - such as some US Republicans - say it does not do enough to ensure the country cannot develop a nuclear bomb. Jebote :) , pa ti bas onako zastitnicki, kao da Iranu ucinise i to onoliko, kao da su ih pomilovali po glavi i rekli im da su bili dobri. Ovo je pobeda Irana i to nesporna: isterao je svoje, a sto je po Zapad najporaznije pojavio se kao prihvatljiva alternativa ekstremnom islamovanu, postao pozeljan partner oko koga ce se tek otimati i to sve vise. Jednom recju, Iran je zauzeo mesto koje mu po znacaju i pripada, a sankcije su se - po ko zna koji put - pokazale kao duplo golo, izgubljeno vreme. Ne znam kakvu to priliku ce trebati da ume da iskoristi iransko drustvo, pa jos pozitivno, da na Zapadu budu zadovoljni: da nece da krenu da im uvode demokratiju na nacine na koje su to poslednjih godina krenuli da demonstriraju diljem Bliskog istoka? Ostaje ona filozofska misao, tipa zbog čega bilo koju zemlju treba sankcionisati ako krene u nuklearni program. Missim, ako mogu Pakistan i Izrael onda faking mogu svi. Iran je dobio sansu i treba da je iskoriste, ali cisto sumnjam da ce u skorije vreme zameniti po vaznosti ulogu koju ima SA. Link to comment

Iran je dobio sansu i treba da je iskoriste, ali cisto sumnjam da ce u skorije vreme zameniti po vaznosti ulogu koju ima SA. Interesantan je jer su suniti kao rogovi u vreći rastrzani između Rijada, Dohe, Ankare, Kaira....šiiti su jedinstveni i bespogovorno slušaju Teheran Link to comment

Ma da je samo filozofija u pitanju, pa 'ajde de: borba velikih, pre svega SAD, ne vise za ogranicavanje sirenja nuklearnog oruzja, nego - posle pogede u Hladnom ratu - za njegovu zabranu, ako treba i silom, sankcijama, sa sve licemerno selektivnim davanjem odobrenja ko sme, a ko ne sme da bude atomska sila, pokazala se neuspesnom i to skroz. Rezultat moze da bude, a bojim se i da ce biti dalje sirenje nuklearnog oruzja: Amerika, a s njom i takozvani razvijeni svet, salju nedvosmislenu poruku - i to kao posledicu sopstvene kratkovidosti - da je nuklearno oruzje jedino oruzje, a sebe, sto je najopasnije, sve cesce dovode u situaciju da su, iz krize u krizu, sve blize upotrebi istog kao jedinom mogucem odgovoru. Ako, ne daj boze, do toga dodje, to nece biti zbog neodgovornosti zapadnih politicara, nego zbog politike nesklone kompromisu, iskljucive i, zasto ne - licemerne, dvostandardne. Ako se tome doda i vise nego izgledna teroristicka nuklearna pretnja, dobija se poprilicno atomski eksplozivna smesa, u svakom slucaju eksplozivnija nego ikad posle Hirosime i Nagasakija.
